WinX Free DVD to iPod Ripper is a multi-format DVD ripper. It allows you to copy your DVD movies to formats that are playable on the Apple iPod. You can load your DVD movie, and the application will automatically detect all the titles present. Then, you can select them all or just a few and convert them using any of the available conversion profiles.
You will notice that at the bottom of the screen there are 5 tabs: to iPod, to iPad, to iPhone, to AppleTV, and to Music. Each one of those tabs contains preloaded conversion settings. So, the files converted using those settings should be optimized for playback on said device. In the case of the iPod, you can choose among several different quality settings, in two different formats: MPEG-4 and H.264. The default resolution is 320x240, but you can change this to anything you want. Just remember that the iPod doesn't have a huge screen, especially the 5G version.
In terms of performance, WinX Free DVD to iPod Ripper works very well. The quality of the files is excellent. And the converter is fast. I would say it is on par with most other rippers out there. This is good, considering this is a free converter. The only problem I noticed is that the app increases the volume of your files automatically. You can disable this by sliding the volume bar to 0 DB.
